Vicryl Rapide - Ethicon braided absorbable suture

Ethicon Vicryl Rapide absorbable suture has the fastest resorption capacity: it disappears between 10 and 14 days!
Rapid vicryl is a braided thread, composed of polyglactin 910 (90% polyglycolic acid and 10% polylactic acid) coated with polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate.

Rapid viryl suture is recommended for soft tissue approximation when short-term support is possible and when rapid resorption of the suture is beneficial:

• Pediatric surgery: circumcision, hypospadias, phimosis
• Episiotomy
• Dental surgery
• Stomatology

Ethicon rapid vicryl suture has good results in ophthalmology for conjunctival sutures. It is used as separate stitches or intradermal overlock, for closing trocar orifices. Some assemblies allow the fixing of drains internally.

The progressive reduction in tensile strength, as well as the resorption of the Vicryl Rapide thread, occurs by hydrolysis. Hydrolysis leads to degradation of the polymer into glycolic and lactic acids. The whole is assimilated and metabolized by the human body. The whole is treated with ionizing rays to guarantee total resorption of the rapid Vicryl thread.

The molecular formula of fast vyrcil is (C2 H2 O2)m (C3 H4 O2)n.

Upon resorption, the first effect will be a total reduction in traction which occurs between 10 to 14 days. The second effect is the disappearance of the material. Rapid Vicryl is completely resorbed in 42 days.
