Daily preservation of pulp vitality
Reliable pulp protection is essential for daily pulp vitality preservation. For this purpose, biocompatibility and a stable, bacteria-tight seal are indispensable properties. VOCO's MTA vpt, primarily composed of tricalcium silicate, creates a durable, stable, and hermetic seal that provides an optimal basis for pulp preservation.
MTA materials (calcium silicate cements) are considered a benchmark in biocompatibility. Thanks to the cement reaction, they bond to form a stable and reliable layer and release calcium and hydroxide ions that stimulate the formation of reparative dentin and endogenous pulp regeneration. The high pH (12) is known for its bacteriostatic action and promotes remineralization.

MTA vpt is applied directly to unconditioned dentin. In case of pulp exposure, hemostasis is performed if necessary. The pulp tissue and adjacent dentin are then covered with MTA vpt. Immediately after, covering with a light-curing Flow material or a flowable glass ionomer cement is possible without pressure.
During hand mixing, the consistency can be adjusted by adding powder or water depending on the clinical situation. Application and adaptation are carried out using standard instruments (spatulas, pluggers).
Clinical applications
- Caries management: selective/stepwise excavation, bacteria-tight barrier for indirect pulp capping
- Anterior region: excellent shade stability, slightly bluish mixture → opaque white after setting
- Paedodontics: hydrophilic, no additional conditioning, usable after pulpotomy on deciduous teeth
